We have over 100 members in our institute, with nearly half of them in the age group 6 to 11 years.Most members have only very limited opportunities to use a computer because the senior students are with the machines most of the time. Unlike at private fee-levying computer classes, we are unable to allocate specified times to individual students. Additionally, a student involved in designing project has to have access to the computer until the work is completed.
Often it is the youngest children who have to wait for long to get computer access. We have a few packages as well as some we ourselves have designed specially aimed at the young. If the opportunity is made available, the children will gain a lot in their education through these. If we have ten laptops, we can install the educational software in these computers and send them to the children’s homes. Then a group of children in the neighbourhood will be able to gather there and use the computer. We can change the location on a weekly basis, and within one month all the children would have had access to computers.
The project outlined is one that we can manage effectively. A computer with a 3 year guarantee costs around Rupees 25000/-.
