GEOGRAPHY

Our village, Hingurukaduwa, is in Badalkumbura AGA Division of Moneragala District. It is typical of the rural communities in Sri Lanka and has many shortcomings. Huge mountains surround the village and a mass of forests covers most of the area. The climate is somewhat wet, and we do not have tea plantations and other commercial crops here at present. The area is hilly and extends over the entire region, which is scantily populated. The highlands are not cultivated. The village has rural houses, and gardens with banana plants. The land is used predominantly for paddy cultivation.

About eight kilometres to the north there are large plantations of tea and sugar cane. Before the sugar factory was started at Pelawatta in 1983, most of the villagers relied on chena cultivation in addition to paddy cultivation. With the coming of the sugar industry, many of them abandoned these forms of agriculture and joined the factory as labourers

Location :-Hingurukaduwa is situated in Ihalakadukara Korale in Badalkumbura Divisional Secretary's area in the District of Moneragala in Uva province. The village is located 17 kilometres from Buttala town along the Buttala - Passara Road .

Facilities and Services :- The village falls within the local administrative limits of Badalkumbura Pradesiya Sabha.
