Mr.Janaka did his schooling at Ananda College, Colombo and he had this opportunity after qualifying for the Year 5 scholarship from his village school. While studying bio science at Ananda College, Janaka discovered an innate talent for drawing, and read the “Sadawasana” (which published a number of comics, including romance and adventure stories) by noted cartoonist Sarathmadhu, who was at the height of his fame through the 1980s to the mid -1990s. After passing the Advanced Level Examination, Janaka went in search of Sarathmadhu with a number of cartoon romances he had created. Soon he was working full-time for “Sadawasana”in the suburbs of Colombo.
He may have remained a cartoonist all his life except for two things -Sarathmadhu's success spawned a large number of imitators and the paper's circulation suffered as a result. At the same time, Janaka's mother urged him to find a more permanent job. As a result, he joined the Uva Development bank in 1993, with the advantage that he could now work close to his home . In 1998, electricity came to his village. In the same year, he bought his first computer. In fact, he bought the components ant assembled it at his home. This was the first computer in Hingurukaduwa
The computer class was at Thanamalwila, the place where he was working. Janaka was dissatisfied with its teaching. Having taught himself what he needed to know with books, he began giving computer lessons free of charge to village children. But he had only his own desktop to do everything with. It was at this time that Rev. Prasanna, catholic priest from the town of Buttala , came to his aid. Janaka met the priest when he went to repair the latter's computer. After hearing about Janaka's project, the father donated him a computer. This was a major boost to the project at the time.
